Gafcon IOW reflected in Gafcon Global News...

11th March 2021

This week Gafcon IOW was launched.  This is a local expression of a global movement, and the Steering Committee are thrilled to be under the umbrella of the largest anglican movement in the world.

The Gafcon movement is a global family of authentic Anglicans standing together to retain and restore the Bible to the heart of the Anglican Communion.  Our mission is to guard the unchanging, transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ and to proclaim Him to the world.  We are founded on the Bible, bound together by the Jerusalem Statement and Declaration of 2008, and led by a Primates Council, which represents the majority of the world’s Anglicans.

Gafcon works to guard and proclaim the unchanging, transforming Gospel through biblically faithful preaching and teaching which frees our churches to make disciples by clear and certain witness to Jesus Christ in all the world.

On the Isle of Wight we want to faithfully work out the goals of Gafcon Global, by:

1. Proclaiming Christ faithfully to all people.

2. Defending the church against heretical and false teachers.

3. Providing a ‘home’ for anyone looking for authentic Biblical Anglicanism.

Rev. James Leggett, Rev. Mark Williams and Rev. Dozie Moneme lead four churches on the island.  They are so encouraged to be working together under the umbrella of Gafcon, and as such committed to seeing God’s kingdom grow.  They represent churches both inside the Church of England and also the Anglican Mission in England, which comes under the oversight of Bishop Andy Lines. We believe that the Gafcon movement is the most timely provision for the church on the Isle of Wight. We pray that the Lord will bless this initiative by growing his kingdom, as we plant, establish and secure churches across the Island.

March 2021

Gafcon UK are delighted that orthodox Anglicans from a variety of backgrounds on the Isle of Wight have formed a local Gafcon group for mutual support in holding firm to biblical faith and cooperation in mission.

The Gafcon movement has shown over a number of years that Anglicans from a kaleidoscope of different languages and national cultures are united through shared faith in Christ, his gospel and his ethical teaching as revealed in the Scriptures; they recognise one another’s worship using similar liturgies in different styles, and they can work together towards the same goal of ‘proclaiming Christ faithfully to the nations’.

However when threats to this unity arise through those in leadership who change the message, perhaps trying to make it more acceptable to the thinking and practice of secularism or other religions, Gafcon has demonstrated the need to courageously and graciously oppose this false teaching, and to call the church back to sound doctrine as set out in the original Anglican formularies, and as summarised in the Jerusalem Declaration of 2008.

Gafcon UK exists to provide a home of fellowship and future hope for all Anglicans who share the Gafcon vision, those inside the Church of England and other historic national churches, and those in other Anglican jurisdictions. We hope that as representatives from these different Anglican groups on the Island work and witness together, they would provide a model for others in similar situations in other parts of the UK and continental Europe.

Christians believe that the gospel is good news for all people and for all time. But since the narratives of our contemporary culture don’t always echo a biblical worldview, the church needs to be clear about how the gospel challenges and transforms human experience – including in our relationships and sexuality.

The Beautiful Story is a 30 minute film that explains how a biblical vision for human sexuality is good for individuals, the church and society as a whole. It is intended to galvanise and support discussion in local churches around sexuality and relationships and to provide the case for what many call a traditional Christian viewpoint.
