Gafcon IoW member response to Croft

Rev. Kelvin Burke appeals to the College of Bishops to uphold canonical duty

As a member of Gafcon IoW who knows Steven Croft personally, I believe I have to respond to his epistle that recants his pledges to the formularies of the Anglican church regarding Holy Matrimony.

I will not pick through his 56 pages to highlight his errors and oversights.  I could not improve on the excellent response to him by Rev Vaughn Roberts a minister of his own Oxford Diocese.

I was at Bible College in Cranmer Hall, St Johns College Durham when Steve Croft was warden. I would consider him to be a friend.  However, I believe he has now ‘wandered from the truth’ as revealed to us in our scriptures.  He is now speaking of a gospel which is no gospel at all because it does not glorify Christ or give him the pre-eminence (Colossians 1:18). Instead he panders to the spirit of this age and has attempted to recraft the scriptures to please people who will not put up with sound doctrine He is saying what their itching ears want to hear (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:3-4

Paul warned Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15

‘Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, who correctly handles the Word of Truth.’

Bishop Croft needs to be ashamed of this work he has done because he is incorrectly handling the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:3 says:

‘No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs, they want to please their commanding officer.’

Sadly, I have to say Bishop Croft is no longer pleasing the Captain of his Salvation (Hebrews 2:10) because he is pleasing another master.

I know this is strong stuff about someone I have known a long time but I believe he has wandered from the truth (James 5:19) I hope and pray that we can bring him and other erring Bishops back to the truth.

As the college of Bishops meets on 12th – 14th December 2022, I urge them to uphold their canonical duty to:

"banish and drive away all erroneous and strange opinions."
